Felt the strength and support from having a sponsor? And ready to give back? Or maybe you’ve heard about having a sponsor and want to learn more. No matter the situation, join us to see how sponsorship can fuel your recovery. Sponsors work one-on-one with another compulsive eater sharing what works for them, walking alongside their sponsees. They use and share OA Tools and slogans, study, work, and apply the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, and offer support when it’s needed. This connection—to Higher Power, to spiritual Principles and practices, and to other recovering OA members—is a crucial part to recovery.

Before recovery, many of us were ashamed of or even hated our bodies. Perhaps, when we looked in the mirror, we heard a parent’s critical voice or taunts from grade school classmates; perhaps we became convinced no one could be attracted to us because of our weight, our body shape, our loose skin, or the effects of aging. Most of us saw a body that didn’t match what others saw, because our vision was clouded by emotional and spiritual turmoil. One of the greatest gifts of recovery is the ability to see our bodies as they really are. For some, that might mean realizing that we’re actually a normal, healthy size. For others, it might mean coming to honor bodies that bore children or survived abuse, including compulsive over or under eating. Our bodies are eager now to thrive-to take up hiking, learn to dance, or wear flattering clothes.

“Find Abstinence Through The Big Book”
Please join us for our 15th annual Big Book Study via Zoom scheduled for two consecutive Saturdays; May 30, 2020 & June 6th, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM each day! The theme this year is: “Find Abstinence Through The Big Book”.
Highlights for this year:
- We will be broadcasting live over the Internet utilizing a visually rich and powerful presentation.
- The live video stream is in High Definition.
- Due to location, the event will not be recorded.
- Reasonable cost (No one will be turned away).
Even though we won’t be together in the same physical room this year, we will still be making the Big Book come alive so we can learn to live in the Promises every day.

Please print a few extra flyers and announce this event at your meeting.
Many meetings have started meeting virtually, most via Zoom (which OA does not endorse, any more than we do the phone company….) If your meeting is not on the list below, it may still be meeting virtually and Intergroup just doesn’t have the information or permission to post the name and number of the person with the specifics of the meeting. We suggest you contact the regular meeting contact to find out if the meeting is happening virtually and either the specifics or who to contact to get the specifics.
While it might be more convenient to post those specifics here, Intergroup prefers not to do that for security reasons. So-called “Zoom Bombing” is now a thing, wherein people crash Zoom meetings and put up pornographic or other offensive content via the virtual background or screen sharing. The more of the specifics we put online, the easier it is for those people to find them. As further security, Zoom as a platform has started requiring a password for all free and single-user Pro accounts, which probably is how most OA meetings are being done (please see earlier article on why we should not be using our employers’ Zoom accounts for OA meetings).. SOAR8 further recommends that OA meeting hosts disable virtual backgrounds and screen sharing by participants.
Note that passwords for audio call-in for Zoom meetings are usually different (numbers only, randomly generated by Zoom) than the password for the video meeting (alphanumeric, can be set by host), so if you plan to call in, be sure to get that password. Hosts, it should be at the bottom of the invitation with the call-in phone numbers. Note too, you will not be asked for the video meeting password if you access it by clicking on a link provided by the host that includes the encrypted password (you can tell because there’s a long string of what looks like random characters at the end of the link). If you access it by entering the meeting ID into the Zoom app, you will be prompted for the video meeting password.
