For the Newcomer
Newcomer’s Welcome
Overeaters Anonymous works for each person from the inside out, and we find that OA’s “inside job” works wonders on our eating issues, whatever they may be. This inner work is outlined in our Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, Nine Tools of Recovery and in OA’s literature. While it takes time, effort and support to fully harvest the long-term recovery of OA, it takes only a little willingness and an open mind to begin the process and to see positive results.

Find a Meeting
Meetings are one of several tools available to assist us. They give us an opportunity to identify our common problems, confirm our common solution, and share the gifts we receive. There are about 2 dozen meetings in this area and they are held every day of the week. The geographical area served by Triangle OA Intergroup is centered on the Research Triangle of North Carolina (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) and also includes the Fayetteville area and eastern North Carolina to the coast. Most of our meetings are on Zoom or hybrid, but there are a few face-to-face meetings. The meeting listings indicate the format (Face-to-Face, Zoom, or Hybrid).
At all OA meetings there are no dues, fees, or registration. We recommend calling or texting the meeting contact person to confirm details and, if necessary, obtain the Zoom link (most meetings that use Zoom choose not to post the meeting link on the website to avoid Zoom-bombing; the meeting contact can provide it). The Zoom link for a specific meeting (e.g., Carrboro Sunday 4pm) remains the same every week.
Attend an Event
A prime component of all events is fellowship. Attendees have the opportunity to hear from abstinent speakers, meet members from other area meetings, experience new ways to approach their own recovery and gain new insights.
Triangle OA Intergroup hosts 3-4 Serenity Days each year, with different themes. The Fall one is generally a Hope for the Holidays theme. These usually happen via Zoom on a Saturday afternoon from 1 to 3 pm ET.
